U.S. Distinguished International Shooter Badges

The United States International Shooter Badge was first awarded in 1963 to recognize those U.S. citizens that have excelled in international shooting competitions sanctioned by the International Shooting Union (UIT), now known as the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).

Gary L. Anderson being presented United States Distinguished International Shooter Badge #1 by President John F. Kennedy in early 1963. Also present was Frank Orth, Executive Vice President of the NRA. He later became the President of the U.S. Olympic Committee. President Kennedy is forming the size of the 300m target 10-ring with his hands.

Originally it was awarded to those U.S. shooters that won an individual or team medal in the Olympic Games, World Shooting Championships, Pan American Games, World Moving Target Championships, World Air Gun Championships, and the Championships of the Americas. Over the years additional modifications to the criteria were made to require minimum number of teams, etc. Recently the criteria was changed to a point system with 30 points being required to earn the USDISB. Some additional competitions were added such as ISSF World Cups, ISSF World Cup Finals, World Shooting Championships for Juniors, and Championships of the Americas for Juniors.
