What is USA Shooting?
USA Shooting, a 501c3 non-profit corporation, was chartered by the United States Olympic Committee as the National Governing Body for the sport of shooting in April 1995. The organization implements and manages development programs and sanctions events at the local, state, regional, and national levels.

When did USA Shooting begin?
Before 1979, a year-round U.S. Shooting Team did not exist. Athletes trained independently and met once a year to try out for major events such as the Olympic Games and World Championships. Once the match was over the team disbanded until the following year.

Spurred by the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, the National Governing Body for shooting at the time established National Teams and National Development Teams, a national coaching staff, year-round training programs, and a main training site for Olympic shooting sports.

What is the mission of USA Shooting?
To prepare American athletes to win Olympic medals, promote the shooting sports throughout the U.S., and govern the conduct of international shooting in the country.

Where is the U.S. Shooting Complex?
USA Shooting is headquartered at the Olympic Training Center (OTC) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Located on the OTC campus, the Olympic Shooting Center was built in 1985 and is used for elite and resident athlete training, competitions, national championships, coaching seminars, camps, committee meetings and local clubs. Approximately 25 resident and day-use athletes train at the OTC during the year.

Member clubs of USA Shooting can host sanctioned USA Shooting matches. To register a sanctioned match, the Club Administrator for USA Shooting will need to go online into the membership section of the web site and enter the competition.

How do I volunteer to help USA Shooting at matches?
USA Shooting couldn't host America's shooting matches without the help of volunteers and officials. Under volunteer section of www.usashooting.org volunteers can download forms to get involved in the next match.

How can I get involved with being an official for USA Shooting matches?
Competitions are not competitions without officials. Under the volunteers and officials section there is information about officials testing and upcoming officials training courses.

Why is the National Ranking in the membership database different than the National Ranking on the public web site?
USA Shooting makes up to the minute national ranking information available to members through the USA Shooting membership database. The USA Shooting public web site updates national ranking’s once per quarter. For the most up to date information, log on to your membership account.

Where can I find shooting clubs near me?
While you can look up shooting clubs in your local phone book, there are also various USA Shooting member clubs across the nation. To find a club listing near you visit our interactive club map.

What kind of pistol or rifle do I need?
For rifle shooters, the most popular brands of rifles come from Anschutz, Feinwekbau, Walther, Steyer and Hammerli. Check out their web sites for more information.

For starter air pistols the TAU, Baikal and Daisy brands are popular. For the more advanced shooters Steyr, Morini and Anschutz are popular air pistols.

For sport pistols, Feinwerkbau, Morini and Hammerli are used.

Do high schools have organized shooting teams in the U.S.?
For young athletes interested in shooting sports, there are a variety of options to choose from.

High Schools: Some states have organized high school shooting leagues, but the programs vary by state. Typically, athletes can take part in varsity high school shooting teams on campus or through the JROTC program.

Community Organizations: Community based organizations like the Boy Scouts of America, American Legion and 4-H clubs have shooting programs for youth. A great resource in finding an organization near you is the National Rifle Association (NRA) web site.

How much does it cost to join USA Shooting?
Memberships can be purchased through the USA Shooting web site. In some cases, a handling fee will be applied for memberships purchased manually by phone, mail or in person. Junior memberships are for shooters under the age of 21. International memberships include any member outside of the United States, including U.S. citizens receiving their membership mail on foreign soil. The only international exception is for members of the U.S. Military and their families receiving their mail at an APO address.

What forms of payment can I use to become a member of USA Shooting?
USA Shooting encourages you to submit your membership dues online. A handling fee will be applied for memberships purchased by phone, mail or in person.

For online membership payments, PayPal is available allowing you to use any credit card or to pay by check. Memberships that are mailed can use check, money order or credit card. Cash payments will NOT be accepted by mail. Memberships processed by phone require a credit card, while memberships made in person can use any form of payment.

Why is there a charge to be a member of USA Shooting?
The benefits delivered as part of the USA Shooting membership, such as the publication, access to USA Shooting sanctioned matches and the tracking of your match scores, are exclusive benefits of an annual membership. Membership dues are used to assist in supporting National, National Development, Junior Olympic and Olympic Team athletes and hopefuls.

How do I get my hotel discount with the Hilton family of hotels or La Qunita hotels?
As a member you are provided with a special USA Shooting code to access your discount at any Hilton Hotel or La Qunita hotel properties nationwide. If you do not have your access code, please log on to the membership web site or call 719/866-4743.

How long does it take for me to receive my membership number after purchase?
Members who pay their annual dues online will receive their member number immediately. Memberships processed by USA Shooting staff over the phone, in person or by mail my take up to two weeks.

Can my shooting team register as a club?
Yes. Your team can be registered as a club. However, to receive individual membership benefits, each athlete will need to become an individual member.

If I am a member of a registered club, can I participate in sanctioned USA Shooting matches?
To participate in sanctioned USA Shooting matches, you must have an individual membership in USA Shooting.

How old do you have to be to be a USA Shooting member?
There is minimum no age requirement to become a member of USA Shooting.

How can I support the U.S. Shooting Team?
Collectively, it is the general public that provides the biggest level of financial support to America’s shooting team. Whether it is in the form of a small cash donation, an endowment, a fundraiser or a major gift, learn what you can personally do to further the development of your current and future U.S. Teams.

I can’t access my online membership account. What do I do?
There are many reason’s why members have troubles logging into the web site. For first time users, it could be that your e-mail address is incorrect in our system, your date of birth is not included or that we have not listed a club for you. For members who have used the system in the past, we can work with you to solve the problem.
