2010 World Shooting Championship Team Selection Procedures Posted COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 6, 2009) ![]() USA Shooting has approved the selection process for the 2010 World Shooting Championships Team. The official document outlines the specific procedures for Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun disciplines, and was formulated by the National Coaches, Athlete Representatives, and key staff members. The selection process is entirely performance-based, and occurs in competitions that are open to USA shooting members. Selection for the World Championships Shotgun Team begins with this year’s USA Shooting National Championships, July 11th – 19th, in Colorado Springs at the International Shooting Park on Fort Carson. The second leg of the selection process consists of the Fall Selection match plus an official final at the Hill Country Shooting Sports Center in Kerrville, Texas, in September 2009. The Team will consist of both men and women in Open and Junior categories in each of the five shotgun events. Open (Men’s and Women’s) Rifle and Pistol selection procedures for the World Championships have one set of selection requirements for smallbore shooters, and a separate path for airgun shooters. Smallbore shooters will compete for team slots at the 2010 Spring Selection match over three courses of fire, held at Fort Benning, Georgia, in the February-to-May 2010 time frame. All Olympic smallbore events in Rifle and Pistol, as well as Centerfire and Standard pistol will be held. 300 meter events will be held in the Fall of 2009, in a competition to be announced. Airgun shooters in both Rifle and Pistol will compete in two selection matches. The first is the Winter Airgun Championships (formerly the “3 X Air” match) in December 2009, and the second match will be a separate selection match held in February of 2010. There will be a total of five courses of fire in those two matches. Junior Rifle and Pistol World Team selections are slightly different, with the first match consisting of the 2010 Junior Olympic Shooting Championships and the second match occurring at the 2010 USA Shooting Junior National Championships. Specific of the procedures, including number of courses of fire and requirements for finals, as well as general regulations, other requirements, and selection grids are contained in the official document. The document is available at www.usashooting.org, under the Policies and Procedures heading at the “Resources”, “Downloads” or by following this link. The 2010 World Shotgun Championships will be held in Munich, Germany, July 28th – August 11th. This competition is generally considered the largest and most competitive International shooting event, second only to the Olympic Games in prestige and spectator appeal. [ Back ] |
