Ian Rupert Wins Double Trap Event at Shotgun Junior Olympics COLORADO SPRING, Colo. (July 30, 2009) ![]() The Double Trap event was held at the 2009 Shotgun National Junior Olympic Championships on Wednesday with Ian Rupert (Muncy, Pa.) taking home the title. Rupert, who finished third at the JOs last year, won the top spot easily by 15 targets this year, finishing with a total of 179. In a shoot-off for second place, Abel Spire (Cushing, Okla.) faced T.J. Bayer (College Station, Texas), who finished sixth in the skeet event on Monday, and hit two targets to Bayer’s one target to earn second place, while Bayer took third. Both shooters ended the final with 164 total hits. Josh Conro (El Cajon, Calif.) finished fourth with 160 hits, while Trey Jones (Moultrie, Ga.) and Shane Herman (Peyton, Colo.) took the fifth and sixth spots with 156 and 155 targets respectively. Other top finishers in Double Trap include: J2 First Place – Trey Jones, 120 J3 First Place – Roy Chavalitlekha, 106 Approximately 200 junior shooters are participating in the International Skeet, Double Trap and Trap events at the 2009 Shotgun JOs. Juniors qualified for the event by winning their State Junior Olympic Championships, or by shooting a qualifying score. Competition will conclude at Ft. Carson’s International Shooting Park on Saturday, August 1 with the Men’s, Women’s and SCTP Trap finals.
